England through but...
Problems still persist for England despite going through to the quarter finals.

Lampard still has not scored despite having more shots on target than any other England players. John Terry made some blunders especially the one earlier in the game where he headed the ball back to the goal keeper, only for an Equador player to sneak through and shot at crossbar. Maybe they need Jose Mourihno's swagger on the bench to play well.

Joe Cole did okay on the left flank. He scored an amazing volley against T n T last week but i still think that Kieran Richardson should be given a chance down there, at least as a substitute, rather than the Middlesbrough man Steward Downing.

Beckham scored an amazing free kick. But I think her wife's celebration with Brooklyn eating ice cream on the stands was more amazing than his overall performance as captain. Steven Gerrard is still my prefered choice as captain. Gerrard needs to be in control to play well. He always looks as if he is being overshadowed by the high profile and rich Chelsea man Frank Lampard, who has scored more goals than any other England players in the WC qualifiers.

England is struggling to bring the WC home.

Fixtures out for Season 06/07
Man Utd will start their season at Home to Fullham.

We will not meet Chelsea until Nov25.

I remember that around the same time last year, Man Utd played Chelsea at Old Trafford, winning them 1-0 through a Darren Fletcher's header.

I was having 'fun' at Australia then. Deprived of all forms of communications from the outside world other a FM radio, I tuned in to the match results on SEA FM's 101.3FM the 1st thing i woke up in the morning.

Even more pathetic was that the nearest place with mobile phone and GPRS receptions was 3km away from the place I stayed at. That was the time when i truely appreciated technology.

This will not happen again this year. I will be watching them play 'live' on our lovely Starhub Channels ESPNSTAR.

Nightmare for Michael Owen
Owen injured his right knee during the first minute of England's 2-2 draw against Sweden. Reports say he could be out for 5 months. His club manager must be seething with anger after hearing the news.

Would the same thing happen to Rooney? Rooney is coming back from injury with lots of energy and enthusiasm.

Let's hope he stays injury free to prevent the wrath of Sir Alex Ferguson.

England very lucky
He was playing robbo-style football for most part of the game but Peter Crouch still managed to score a header from a cross by Beckham to give England their 1st goal against Trinidad and Tobago. Owen was not his old self and the manager did right by substituting him with a not fully matchfit Wayne Rooney - to put psychological pressure on T n T's defence.

Steven Gerrard scored a spectacular long range goal to give England their 2nd goal. Frank Lampard looked as if he needed his club manager Jose Mourihno to motivate him to play to his best. Lampard's attacking midfield role should be given to Steven Gerrard instead, as he was the most lively and motivated player on the pitch.

Likewise, David Beckham's armband should also be given to Gerrard. As a captain, Beckham did not motivate his team mates around him, resulting in England breaking the deadlock so late in the game.

Joe Cole had a bad game and had also played as if he needed Mr Moneyman Mourihno's motivation . Again, I still think that Kieran Richardson would be a better choice for England's left.

2-0 win for England against T n T.

Round of 16 awaits.

'Mighty' Ukraine
I feel so 'sad' for Andrei Shevchenko's Ukraine. The Chelsea man's team was whipped 4-0 by 'lowly' rated Spain. Spain didn't even start the match with their influential captain, Raul Gonzalez.

But never mind, Mr Sheva aka new Chelsea hotshot, as the 'better' team lost. Haha.

England: World Cup 2006 Champions?
England won't be winning the World Cup 2006 title if they continue to play like they did against Paraguay.

Mr Robbo Crouch's only advantage in that game was his height. Beckham, although provided the cross for the Paraguay's own goal, contributed little in the 2nd half. Steven Gerrard was not at his best as a defensive midfielder. Steward Downing, who came on for Owen in the 2nd half, kept losing possesion of the ball on the left flank. Kieran Richardson from Man U would be a better choice on the left.

Joe Cole did a decent job in the 1st half on the left, always doing Cristiano Ronaldo step-overs whenever he could. Lampard had a few long range good shots which were well saved by the keeper. The defence, marshalled by Rio and Gary, did a decent job at the back as well.

But I doubt England can rival the likes of Argentina, Brazil, Holland and Germany if Rooney does not get match-fit asap to replace Mr Robbo Crouch up front.

World Cup 2006 opening
Germany v Costa Rica

Will new Chelsea man Michael Ballack and Arsenal stopper Jens Lehmann keep out Costa Rica? Be sure to catch it 'live' tomorrow, 12 midnight, on our beloved Starhub channels.

In this World Cup, I am hoping to see Chelsea players flop whoever they play for, especially Paulo Ferreira, who caused Rooney's injury.

Rooney's foot scan today

Wayne Rooney will fly back to England on a private jet from Germany today to take a scan on his foot. The outcome of the scan will determine whether he can play a part in Germany.

His condition looks optimistic as pictures show Rooney taking part in light training and kicking a ball(right) in England's 1st training session on German soil.

Chelsea crumbling
I can sense Chelsea crumbling despite the high profile arrival of Andriy Shevchenko, Michael Ballack and Salomon Kalou. Nigerian John Mikel Obi and Brazilian Roberto Carlos will most probably be going to Chelsea too if reports from soccernet.com are true. High profile signings do not necessarily make a good team.

See what happens to Real Madrid after so many Galacticos joined the club a few years back. They have not won any competitions for 3 years running. High profile players mean high egos among players too.

Can Mr Moneyman Mourinho control those players? The crumbling of Chelsea begins.
